2006 Sheldon Jackson Memorial Members-Only Competition

Sheldon Jackson

This year's Sheldon Jackson Memorial Homebrew Competition is coming up quickly! The location has yet to be confirmed, but it will most likely be at UNLV, the same as all of our recent competitions. It will be on 11 November 2006. As always, it is a BJCP- and AHA-sanctioned competition.

Rules

  1. The competition is open to SNAFU club members only.
  2. Recipe sheets and entry forms are not necessary. Instead, each bottle must have a label attached that includes the BJCP category and subcategory (both number/letter and category/subcategory names, from the 2004 guidelines), a unique name for the beer/mead recipe, and the entrant's name. Labels designed for this competition are available here. AHA standard bottle labels and labels generated by ProMash are also acceptable.
  3. The label shall be attached by a rubber band to the bottle. Tape, glue, spit, etc. are not acceptable.
  4. Each entry will consist of two 10-14 oz. brown or green glass bottles. Any distinguishing cap marks must be blacked out. Swing-top bottles are acceptable, but will not be returned.
  5. Entries must be received by 9 pm Friday, 10 November 2006. Late entries may be consumed by the event organizers. If you're judging, you may bring your entries with you on the day of the competition.
  6. Entry fee will be $5 per entry.
  7. Important! If you enter items in Categories 20 through 28, remember to specify the necessary additional information required for these categories. For the beers, you must specify the base beer style and then also include information about the fruit, spice, herb, vegetable, or other specialty information needed to accurately judge it. For meads and ciders, you must specify carbonation level, strength, sweetness (there are separate categories for dry/semi-sweet/sweet traditional meads), and any special ingredients used. Entries that do not comply with these requirements will receive minimum points because the judges will not be able to evaluate them against what they should be, so make sure your labels are complete!
  8. There is a limit of one entry per subcategory. Entering a best bitter and an ESB (for instance) is OK. Entering two ESBs isn't.
  9. Awards will be presented at the December SNAFU meeting.

If you have any other questions or concerns, contact organizer Scott Alfter at 702 894-9618.
